The Paper Element Design Team

I can finally announce this now that it's on their blog. I'm on the first design team for The Paper Element, a US manufacturer. They've had two collections at CHA and more exciting collections lined up. I'm so happy and honoured to have been selected to be part of the design team and am really looking forward to playing with their new collections. Thanks so much to The Paper Element for picking me. :)

A quick one I did using a Pencillines sketch and MME papers. The photo was taken along the River Seine in Paris.

Creative Scrappers Contest

Creative Scrappers is having a 28 hour sketch contest. There's a sketch up on their blog. Do a layout based on that sketch and upload it by midnight 30 May eastern standard time to win prizes. For those of us in Singapore, we're 12 hours ahead. So get scrapping!

Candy & Cheese

I did this for an Earth Day challenge. Everything on this layout is recycled except for the Creative Imaginations pattern papers. The 12x12 inch cardboard base is recycled from the backing of a paper stack. The corrugated cardboard was originally packing material from a delivery box. I painted both of these in shades of pink, fuschia and white and distressed the edges. The corrugated cardboard acts as the base upon which the photos and other mementoes sit. The journalling tag was a room key card at the hotel we stayed at in London. I recycled it by simply journalling on the back of the key card. I also used a discarded bubble gum case to frame the photo on candies, much like a Pac-man chomping down on the candy. The bubble gum casing and room key card double up as mementoes from our London holiday. The ribbons were all recycled from birthday gift wrappings.

A 'Birdy-ful' Holiday

This one's for Laine's Design Team Gallery. The Pink Paislee Spring Fling paper reminded me of the lorikeets at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Park. And so the tongue-in-cheek title "A 'Birdy-ful' Holiday". :) I was going to crackle paint the Maya Road chipboard trees, but since I didn't have any green crackle paint (duh!) I opted for green and white buttons with some red buttons thrown in for good measure. :)

This layout was inspired by Kate O'Brien's great look on Scrapjacked! I loved the b/w & colour photos and the grid format. Used Scenic Route's bright and cheery collection on this.

Unconditional Love

Can you tell I love flowers and the black, red and cream combination? :) There's hidden journalling on this layout, tucked behind the photo. Pulling on the chipboard flower reveals the journalling. The title "So Worth Remembering" is on clear overlay which I suspended over lace.

April LOTW!

I just found out my layout "How Does Your Gardend Grow?" was voted as Treasured Scrapbooking's Winner for April's Layout of the Week! Every week, the Design Team picks a layout they consider to be the layout of the week. At the end of each month, all the weekly winners are featured and forum members are invited to vote for their favourite. It was a lovely surprise to learn that mine was the favourite. Thanks so much ladies! Treasured Scrapbooking has some fun challenges and contests on their site. Go take a look.

Smile!

Did this layout for Laine's Design Team Inspirations, highlighting the new black and white Popstar range from Rusty Pickle and complemented by everyone's favourite, Hambly overlays. I cut out the large butterfly, little butterflies, swirls and circles from the Rusty Pickle pattern paper, and to add dimension, I created a 3D flower, popped up the butterflies and alpha title as well as intertwined the swirls. The b/w Rusty Pickle paper and bright Hambly overlays were a great contrast to each other and I was quite happy with the extra zing! :)

G is for Grow

Do you sometimes complete a layout and it makes you smile? This one does it for me. First off, I love the photo here. It was just one of these those spontaneous moments captured by the camera. Then I like all the different techniques tried out on this layout. The inking, detailed cutouts, use of twill, hidden journalling on the torn paperbag...

Urban Rhapsody

I did this some time back using K & Co's Urban Rhapsody paper. I love K & Co, and the colours and whimsical feel of Urban Rhapsody called out to me. They're not the easiest paper to work with though, because there's so much detail on the paper you feel like you just can't cover up any part of it with your photos or embellishments. So I went with a simple layout on this one, which was taken in Hyde Park, London. I cut out some parts of the design to insert my photo, stamped a row of coupons because we were there for the Christmas fun fair, and embellished lightly with the Maya Road chipboard swirls and Prima flowers.

Daughter, Friend

Did this as a Mother's Day layout for myself. The title, Daughter, Friend, is about my relationship with my daughter. I decided to scrap a green layout, taking the cue from the photo and am rather pleased with the soothing combination of moss green and sky blue. Papers are from Pink Paislee, K & Co and Hambly. There's actually a blue hambly hidden under the lace which doesn't show up well in the photo. And of course lots of Prima flowers and my favourite Maya Road chipboard swirl which I crackle and inked matching shades of green and blue. Added in liberal dashes of ribbon, lace and pearl for that feminine touch.

221B Baker Street

We went to the Sherlock Holmes Museum at 221B Baker Street, London, which is the actual address of the famous sleuth in the series. The journalling is done on a library card which is tucked midway behind the photo film strip and the main photo. I'd written the author's name (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) and the title of one of the more well-known books (The Hound of the Baskervilles) on the library card. Did quite a bit of distressing and inking which I thought suited the Victorian era. Did quite a bit of stamping too. Papers are from Prima's Cavalier and Whisper collection.

Laines Mother's Day Layouts

This is the exhibition poster at Wheelock Place showing some of the winning entries at Laine's recent Mother's Day Challenge. It's a huge poster, with the 12x12 layouts reproduced to actual size. Keep a look out for new challenges at Laines!

Scrap Scene

My "Flower How-to" was featured on Scrap Scene. Thanks Angie! And also on a couple of other international forums. Thanks to everyone who's been dropping by to take a look and for your kind words. Disney - Then & Now

Was looking through our Disney photos and what caught my eye was despite the number of years that separated our earlier visits to Disneyland and the latest visit to Paris Disneyland, one constant was a purple winter coat. Figured I had to scrap that. :)



The 3D flower at the bottom left corner was made from matching pattern paper.
