Hurray! My layout, Basil, is Number One by Views, Most Liked and Most Bookmarked at Two Peas!!

Here's the layout again. I created it using Pink Paislee's Queen Bee paper and Zva Creative's flowers and pearl flourishes. :)

Basil

A big box full of Zva Creative blings and flowers arrived for me a few days ago and here's a layout I came up with using some Zva goodies and Pink Paislee Queen Bee papers.

Lots of handcut details. The lovely pearl flourishes are from Zva. I combined two corner pearl flourishes to create this more elaborate swirl. The larger flower is also from Zva, and I was quite happy to see that it complemented the Queen Bee papers perfectly.

More Zva pearl swirls. That little flower is also from Zva, originally a pristine white. I spritzed it with Tattered Angels glimmer mist in Lemon Zest to get it to the shade I wanted to match my layout.

In case you're wondering, Basil's the name of the beautiful grey horse.

Sunshine

This is my take on Prima's May Build-A-Page sketch. It's a layout of my daughter with one of the school's horses, Sunshine, a pretty and good-natured chestnut gelding.

I used a mix of brand new and older Prima patterned papers and flowers on the layout, selecting a colour palette of pale pink, mint and green. The pale palette allowed the silhouette-cut photo to stand out amidst the cluster of flowers.

The Petite Fleur Vine Cherry Blossom is from Prima's first vine collection a couple of seasons ago, as is the Wild Wood Collection. I love the rustic look of these flowers. Mixed in are flowers from this season's CHA: Calcutta, Athena flowers and De Vines.

The layout features patterned papers from the Flights of Fancy collection. To add lots of texture and contrast, I created a ruffled edging on the bracket shape, using border punches and patterned paper from a past collection,  Flirty Little Secrets, which is one of my favourite Prima collections to date.

My favourite things about this layout? The ruffled paper edging, the silhouette photo, the dimension and layering, and using up some of my older stash with my new.

Whimsical Hot Air Balloon

I created this Hot Air Balloon two weekends ago on a whim. I had a couple of hours free and thought I would make something different. And so I came up with this whimsical hot air balloon, adorned with my favourite embellishments of flowers, crystals, pearls and butterflies.

There was quite a bit of experimenting because my original idea didn't work out. But I'm pretty pleased with the final product and it all came together very quickly once I got going. The hot air balloon is for my daughter's room, where it'll float amongst the blue skies and fluffy clouds in her garden-themed room.

The hot air balloon is created using mostly Prima products. Lots of Prima lace, flowers, crystal and bling swirls, and of course that butterfly. I like the idea of a butterfly perched on a hot air balloon. :)

I created the hanging basket from scratch using Prima's Watercolor Rainbow patterned paper, lots of lace, flowers and a pearl strand. The basket is remarkably sturdy and can hold quite a lot in it. Here the basket is filled with a surprise and topped off with a large Prima bloom.

This project was a difficult one to photograph. Photographing the hanging hot air balloon near an open door for sunlight meant it was spinning around in the light breeze. So I had to wait for it to spin to the angle I wanted then quickly snap a photograph and wait for it to spin around again. All this done with single hand photography because I had to hold up the balloon with my left hand. The last time I did something like this was when I was photographing my butterfly mobile.

I had lots of fun making this. Best of all, it makes me happy looking at it. :)

Focus

Trying something different again with this layout. The photo is of my daughter having a go at archery and I thought it would be interesting to reproduce the target on my layout. I used the patterned papers from October Afternoon's Fly A Kite paper plus some red and black cardstock to create the target. The theme of circles is echoed in the background patterned paper, the journalling spot and the dew drops.

The title of the layout is Focus, which I kept small and created using alpha stickers from October Afternoon which I added glossy accents to. I don't know if you noticed this, but the arrow from the photo is aimed at the title and phrase cluster. That's my idea of a subconscious visual direction. :)

Jump for Joy!

Here's a layout in a style that's slightly different from my usual. I played with October Afternoon's Fly A Kit collection from My Scrapbook Nook's May kit. What a fun cheery kit this is, lots of bright colours and cute elements.

I love layouts with lots of dimension and I use foam dots in a lot of my layouts. But this time I wanted to see if I could create a flattish layout, no foam dots and minimal 3D elements. The October Afternoon stickers were great to play with. I could layer them to create interest without the bulk.

Border punches and trimming the edges of patterned paper are a great way to create dimension without too much bulk. Here I layered the border-punched edges one on top of the other for a fun lacey effect. The punched out butterflies add just that touch of dimension as well.

So there's my non-3D layout but one that still has some dimension. And one that I can slip easily into my album, unlike some of my bulkier ones. :)

Prima April BAP

Prima's announced their winner for the April BAP.

I didn't win, but I got a mention, which is delightful. :)

I loved seeing everyone's take on the sketch, each one different but just as pretty. The May BAP's up and it's a beauty too.

Altered Canvas

I had so much fun creating this altered canvas, trying out different techniques and playing with My Tattered Angels products and my new Tim Holtz dies.

I wanted a grungy feel so first off I misted the canvas with my all time favourite, Olive Vine, and a new favourite Chocolate Covered Cherries.

I especially love the effect I created with the Tattered Angels compass glimmer screen. The shipping tag next to the compass was misted with Candlelight and Suede. I then stamped on a new stamp from Tattered Angels' Rockin' Renaissance collection, which I then heat embossed. The quote stamp next to it is from Tim Holtz.

I used lots of chipboards on this canvas, which I colored to my satisfaction using glimmer mists. I wanted to create a rusty, oxidised look on the pocketwatch chipboard frame from Tattered Angels, so I misted it with Patina and Coffee Shop. The key chipboard is from a Tim Holtz die. This I coloured with Olive Vine.

That clear little postage stamp is a glimmer glass from My Tattered Angels' Travellers collection. I applied Glimmer Glaze in Emerald Cove to the back of the glass and was impressed with how shimmery the glaze. But as I was going for a grunge look, I took my sanding block to the glaze and distressed it.

Thirteen

I was inspired by the April BAP sketch at Prima to create this layout. I took some liberties with the sketch. For a start, I used only a single sheet of 12x12 Prima patterned paper.

I layered on various Prima laces, flowers, vines, leaves and pearl swirls.

I like the colour scheme on this layout. Graduated yellows from creams, to pale lemon yellow, to mustard, with touches of cocoa.

Zva Creative Design Team!

This is a clean layout I created for Tattered Angels. I wanted the focus to be on the photograph, so I kept a fair bit of white space, highlighted by a light misting of Patina glimmer mist for the background. I like that the light turquoise background allowed the Prima Pastiche patterned papers, flowers and chipboard embellishments to be highlighted.

I love layering my flowers and embellishments over the ever-versatile Tattered Angels chipboard Framed  Font. I misted the chipboard with Old Lace, then coated it with glitter.

Pretty butterflies from the Pastiche patterned paper, cut out and stickled.

A clean look but still lots of dimension.

My Scrapbook Nook Blog Hop
