Zva Creative July DT Blog Hop

Zva Creative and our talented Design Team welcome you to our July blog hop!

The Blog Hop begins at Zva Creative's blog! Be sure head on over to check it out! Leave a comment there for a chance to win an extra prize package just for visiting the blog and telling us that you stopped by! You will also find a complete list of all the participating blogs there (in case there is a glitch along the way).

As you know, Zva offers many beautiful color groupings for pearls, flowers and crystals.  We want to make sure that they shine bright for you, so each designer was will be sharing a creation using a specific color or color combination on their blog hop project.  If you like what you see you can find a list of stores and online retailers that sell Zva HERE.

And here's my layout for Zva Creative. I'm highlighting some lovely Zva crystals and flowers in purple.

It's a layout of my dog enjoying a little wallow in the mud and hiding amidst some greenery. The patterned paper is from Graphic 45's Happy Haunting collection. Who says Halloween papers have to be used only for Halloween-themed projects? ;)

Here you see some Zva Creative purple crystals, leaves and flowers in purple and yellow.

If you would like to play along with our design team, just follow along the blog path.  I am linking to one of the Zva designers and that designer is linking to the next and so on. Be prepared to be inspired along the way!

Hidden on FIVE of the designer's blogs is a Zva Creative prize package! Winners will be randomly chosen after the hop is over, so it's important to leave a comment on as many blogs as you can along the way.

The Blog Hop starts today, July 30th and runs through midnight US Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, July 31st.

The 5 winners will be announced on Wednesday, August 1st on Zva Creative's blog. We will do our best to notify each winner, but it's best if you can pop in to Zva's blog on Wednesday.

All you need to do is leave a comment on this Blog Hop post... you do not need to leave a comment on each and every designer's blog post to qualify. However, the more times you comment along the blog hop path, the more chances you will have to win.

We also thought it would be more fun to add even more chances to win our blog hop prize!  To increase your chances of winning:

* Comment to let us know that you posted on your Facebook page about our hop (link to any of the blog hop posts)

* Comment to let us know that you "tweeted" about our hop (link to any of the blog hop posts)

* Comment to let us know that you asked your local store to carry Zva creative products.  If they already do, that's fantastic, maybe you can suggest other products that they don't carry.

*Hop over to Zva's blog and leave a comment there to tell us that you made it there!

The blog hop begins here at Zva Creative's blog. Your next stop is Lisa Gregory. Enjoy!

Here's what I created for the blog hop. I used Graphic 45's new Bird Song collection.

This is one very pretty Asian-inspired collection. I love the colours, especially the combination of teal, red and black.

And this is my layout, of my daughter when she was much younger in a cheongsam during Chinese New Year many years ago.

I went for a circular layout, edging the borders with lace and border-punched Bird Song patterned paper. I wanted to give the layout a garden feel so I silhouette-cut the photograph and immersed it in a garden of flowers, birds and butterflies.

A beautiful pair of birds. The green pearls dotting the circumference of the layout are from Want2Scrap.

I sprinkled Art Glitter's Penny's Worth Dazzlers on Graphic 45's metal butterflies.

List of Supplies:
Graphic 45 Bird Song papers - Pearls of Wisdom, Cherry Blossom, Tranquility & Endless Spring
Graphic 45 Staples - Metal Butterfles & Stamped Metal Brads

Pretty Altered Frame Video Tutorial

A couple of weeks ago I received the fantastic news that I was one of the finalists in the May Arts Ribbon Design Team call. I love ribbons, trims and lace and remember the first time I came across May Arts ribbons in this huge store in New York City which sold all manner of trims and lace. Needless to say I walked out of that shop with a large bag of ribbons. :)

For this finalist project, we were told to make our selection of ribbons from the May Arts catalogue and I had a great time swooning over all the ribbons there. I would have loved to pick one of every ribbon in the catalogue but decided I would exercise restraint and limit myself to pretty trims and laces in a vintage style and in cream and ivory tones.

Here are the ribbons I used in the project, together with Graphic 45's le Romantique papers.

And this is what I created. I altered a photo frame into a customized home decor in a floral romantic style. The frame is done up in pretty flowers, trims and lace and other embellishments reminiscent of a garden setting. There are layers and layers of ribbons, patterned paper and flowers and lots of texture created by the assortment of ribbons I used. I kept the colours of the embellishments muted in pale shades of cream, peach and mint, allowing the photograph to be the focus of the project.

The completed project:

Some close-ups:

The trim-textured background, the floral cluster and ribbon framing the corner.

The pearl trim peeking out from behind the garden of flowers, bird house and bridge.

Other close-ups...

Here's the video tutorial on how I created the project. It's my first video tutorial so it took some fiddling with iMovie to get it edited. Enjoy!

Some flowers I bought from Bangkok on my recent trip there. Aren't they pretty? And no, I did not arrange them in that heart shape. Only realized it after I took the photo. But it's so apt. I love flowers. :)
