Graphic 45 Tutorial : A Mini (Mini) Notebook

Here's a tutorial I created for Graphic 45's Newsletter featuring simple Crafts for Kids. It's a tutorial on how to make a Super Duper Easy Peasy Mini Mini from a single sheet of patterned paper. :) It's so simple you could make it with your 5 year old. :)

Here's what the mini minis look like. They measure just 3x4 inches and can be used as little diaries or for sticking in little photos or stickers. They're also useful for when you're traveling. I brought one of these along on my recent holiday to Bangkok.

So here's what you'll need:

Supplies:
1 sheet of Graphic 45 patterned paper of your choice
Craft knife or scissors
Ruler

Instructions:

1. Trim a 4x12 inch piece from your 12x12 inch Graphic 45 patterned paper. Set this aside for creating your notebook cover.

2. Take the 8x12 inch piece of patterned paper. Score the paper in half lengthwise. Next, score the paper breadthwise in 3 inch intervals. You now have 8 scored panels measuring 3x4 inches each.

3. Cut along the fold lengthwise as shown, cutting across only 3 panels.

4. Fold the patterned paper as shown.

5. Bring the uncut panel together as shown and fold the other pages to form the semblance of the notebook. Glue the 2nd and third panel together to form a page; glue the 4th and 5th panels to form a page; and glue the 6th and 7th pages together to form a page. You now have a front and back page of single page thickness and three inside pages of double page thickness.

6. Create a cover using the remaining 4x12 inch patterned paper. Trim off the excess paper and glue the cover to the front and back sheets of the notebook.

7. Decorate the cover and you're done! A quick mini notebook measuring just 3x4 inches, perfect for quick notes or even photos and autographs. I used the images from Graphic 45's School Days patterned paper from An ABC Primer collection to decorate my notebooks. The book plates are just the perfect size for the note book.

If you'd like a printable format for this tutorial, click here: Mini Mini Printable Tutorial. And here's the direct link to the Newsletter.

Let me know if you create a little notebook using this tutorial. I'd love to see it.

Have a great weekend!

As you know, Zva offers many beautiful color groupings for pearls, flowers and crystals.  We want to make sure that they shine bright for you, so each designer was will be sharing a creation using a specific color or color combination on their blog hop project.  If you like what you see you can find a list of stores and online retailers that sell Zva HERE.

Here's my Zva creation for the blog hop.

I used Basic Grey's Picadilly collection, did lots of detailed cutting, border punching and layering. And of course Zva Creative's beautiful flowers, leaves and pearl flourish.

Now on to my project. It's a layout using Graphic 45's Le Cirque collection titled Le Cirque de Fluff. :)

I created a fun layout of my puppy using Graphic 45's Le Cirque collection. My puppy's a little fluff-ball as you can see. Hence the title Le Cirque de Fluff. The layout comprises many layers, beginning with the background concentric circles, followed by the photograph matted on a corrugated cardboard and finally the embellishments of flowers, clowns and ribbons.

I cut out images of the clowns from the patterned paper and layered them with Prima flowers and vines which were intertwined through the curled May Arts ribbon.

Two twirled May Arts ribbons hug the top left corner of the photograph.

The tightrope artiste walks a yellow and white tightrope of May Arts twine.

The fun title cluster...

Lomo

I was in Hong Kong recently for a short holiday and decided to scrap a layout of my new Lomo camera.

I went for a clean layout with a fair bit of white space using Graphic 45's Tropical Travelogue collection. I cut out images mainly from the Exotic Destination and Island Jewel papers which provided me with plenty of travel images.

The beautiful orange and green flowers are from Zva Creative, as is the brown crystal flourish.

The journaling tags were perfect for short notes on the trip.

Thanks for dropping by!

Little Darlings Mini Album Tutorial

This mini album and its tutorial was featured on the Graphic 45 blog yesterday and I've received many lovely compliments on it. Thank you all so much. I've reproduced the tutorial here with more photographs. If you need any clarifications, please drop me a note in the comments section. Once again, thank you!

I whipped up this mini album using Graphic 45’s new Little Darlings collection as a gift for the grandparents. The raw mini album is really quick and easy to make. And all you'll need to do after making the album is to decorate it with your favourite Graphic 45 papers and embellishments. Here are some photos of the completed album:

So let's get started on how to create the raw mini album. Here's what you'll need:

Supplies:
Graphic 45 Little Darlings patterned papers - 4-5 sheets of 12x12 inch papers
Graphic 45 Little Darlings chipboard tags
Vanilla cardstock paper - 1 sheet
2 chipboard pieces measuring 6x6 inches for the covers
Ribbon - 30 inches

Instructions:

1. Cut 2 sheets of 7x7 inch patterned papers for your cover. Adhere the 6x6 inch chipboards on to the back and centre of these patterned papers.

2. Cut a diagonal off the corners of your patterned papers. Fold over the sides of the patterned paper on to the back of the chipboard and adhere securely. Repeat for the back cover.

3. Place the front and back covers side by side an inch apart. Lay the ribbon across the centre of the back of the covers and glue down.

4. Now onto the spine of the mini album. You'll need two sheets of vanilla cardstock measuring 5 3/4 x 11 3/4 inch each. Score each cardstock at the 5 3/4" mark. Then score at intervals of 1" apart. Accordion fold the cardstock. Do this for both sheets of cardstock.

5. Join the two pieces of cardstock together as shown. Adhere securely.

6. Adhere the cardstock to the front and back covers of your mini album.

7. Cut 5 sheets of Little Darlings patterned paper measuring 5 3/4 x 11 1/2 inches. Fold each sheet into half and glue the ends together.

8. Adhere each page on to the spine of your album and you're done! To securely close the album, just tie the ends of your ribbon together into a pretty bow. How simple was that?

Now all you need to do is decorate and embellish the mini album to your heart's desire. I decided on a lace cover for my spine and this is how it looked before I embellished the cover.

The inside pages - again I embellished the spine.

More photos of my completed album which I decorated using images from the Little Darlings patterned paper, chipboard tags, fabric, seam binding, pearls and flowers. The images were given more dimension using 3D foam dots.

So if you're thinking of making a pretty mini album for a mum-to-be or a brag book for the grandparents, why not give this a shot? Happy scrapping!
