Calligraphy & Christmas Cards

It's been some time since I blogged here. I've been busy with my new hobby, calligraphy. And I'm really pleased to share that I will be teaching a few calligraphy classes at PaperMarket this month.

The hands-on classes will take you through the basic letterforms of modern calligraphy and how to write with an oblique holder. And because Christmas is coming up, you'll be designing your own Christmas cards at the end of the class, with your personalized calligraphy greeting. All material will be provided in the class, including an oblique holder, ink and inkpot, flexible pointed nibs and material to make Christmas cards and tags. Come join the class with a friend. I hope to see you there. More details on the class and PaperMarket's event can be found here:

Altered Vintage Pencil Box

I had this plain wooden box which I was using to house my calligraphy supplies and after seeing its potential, I decided to give it a new lease of life. Given that it would be used to house calligraphy supplies, which included some vintage nibs, I decided to alter the box in a vintage style.

I used Prima's Time Traveller's Memories collection, plus Prima flowers and lace. I also added some metal ephemera and muslin for more of that vintage-shabby look.

I like it when altered objects are both functional and pretty to look at.

Painting with Glimmer Mists

I decided to try painting with My Tattered Angels' Glimmer Mists yesterday and was pleasant surprised by the results. The mists work very much like water colours and best of all, they give off a glimmery sheen when dry.

Oh and please excuse the artwork. I haven't done any painting since school. And that was a long time ago. :D

Callum & Chowder

Here's a layout I created of my puppy, Callum, and his sister, Chowder. Chowder happened to be at the groomers the same time as Callum and we took the opportunity to take a quick photo of the both of them together .

I used Graphic 45's Botanical Tea, Prima flowers and Sassafras alphabet stickers on the layout. Thanks for dropping by.

Happy Day

Here's a layout I created using Fancy Pants' What A Wonderful Day collection.

I used just two sheets of patterned paper, Awe-Inspiring and Sensational, and diecuts from the Ephemera pack, as well as a square doily as a mat. The diecuts were popped up with some 3D foam squares for that little bit of dimension.

Summer Cards

Here are some cards I made for Summer, using Graphic 45's By The Sea collection.

And here are more which I made for a Summer Card Exchange, using Marion Smith's Garment District collection.

All the calligraphy work was done by hand - my latest hobby. :D

Good Ol' Sport Shadow Box

I had fun creating this shadow box layout using Graphic 45’s new Good Ol’ Sport collection and 8x8 Matchbook Box. I used the green tartan patterned paper as a backdrop and built the shadow box around lots of fussy-cutting images, layered with 3D foam dots for dimension. I positioned the images such that my puppy in the photo would be looking at the football player as he kicked the football which, if you follow the line of the trajectory, ends up in the top right corner of the shadow box.

List of Supplies:
Good Ol’ Sport collection - Good Ol’ Sport, Game Day, Big Score, All Star, Number 1 Fan, Touchdown
Staples - 8x8 Matchbook Box

DREAM party banner

I created this banner with the word DREAM using Graphic 45’s Sweet Sentiment. It’s rather easy to put together and would be fun as a streamer for a party or in my case, I used it as a decor for my booth at a scrapping fair at PaperMarket.

To complement the vintage cherubs and sweet pastel blues and pinks of the collection, I embellished the banners with cheesecloth, lace, dainty doilies and strung them altogether with pink satin ribbons.

List of Supplies: Graphic 45 Sweet Sentiments collection -
Sweet Sentiments
Perfect Petals
Heart Song
Sweet Sentiments Chipboard

Typography Note Holder

Here's a Typography note holder I created for Graphic 45 some time ago but was only recently featured on their blog. I used Typography papers and the Staples Artist Trading tags.

The front of this creation resembles a wooden chest, held close by a brass lock. Unclasping the brass lock reveals this:

The pocket holds little words of encouragement and if like me, you like typewriters, you can type little messages on manila tags and slip these into the pocket too.

List of Supplies:
Graphic 45 Staples - Artist Trading Cards Kraft
Graphic 45 Typography patterned papers - Typography, Celebrate, Inscribe, Dream, Journey, Imagine
Graphic 45 Typography Tags and Pockets

Farewell, Graphic 45!

Today's my farewell blog post on the Graphic 45 blog. It's been such a joy designing for Graphic 45. I love their products and the team at headquarters really looks after the design team so well. I will miss the design team but will continue to design with their products because I really love their style.

Hop on over to the Graphic 45 blog to see some of my never before seen Graphic 45 projects, a couple of tutorials as well as some old favourites, like this fan favourite:

Leave me a message there too. I'd love to hear from you.

Just Chillin'

Here's a layout I created for PaperMarket using Bo Bunny's Happy Tails. It's a layout of my sweet little puppy, Callum, in a relaxed mood.
