Spring Tag

The Tattered Angels DT recently created some tags to bring a bit of spring into our homes using the wonderful Spring 2011 Bahama Cruise Colors Limited Edition Glimmer Mist.

When I think Spring, I think of flowers, butterflies and gardens. So I decided to alter a large manila tag reflecting a cheery garden the new Spring colours.

I first misted the tag with the bright sunny yellow of Sun Sisters glimmer mist. I then stamped the image of the plants on the tag and embossed it with clear embossing powder. Next I misted on shades of blue and green using Trunk Bay, Bahama Blue and Puerto Rico. You'll see that the embossed image resists the mists beautifully, allowing the yellow mist to show through.

To give the tag more texture, I brushed on some Glimmer Glam in Organic Garden and ran my tag through my embossing machine, giving it some raised dots. The tag was finished off with some hand cut flower and butterfly details from Basic Grey's Curio collection, mist-dyed seam binding and lace.

And speaking of Spring, Chinese New Year will be upon us soon. Ahh... lots of feasting! :)

Zva Creative January DT Blog Hop!

Zva Creative and the Design Team welcomes you to join us this month for a blog hop that we feel is always extra special!

There is now an added twist to our blog hops, YAY!  As you know, Zva offers so many beautiful color groupings for pearls, flowers and crystals.  We want to make sure that they shine bright for you, so each designer was asked to share a creation using a specific color or color combination on their blog hop project.

The Blog Hop begins at Kim Hughes' blog. She will have the complete list of all blogs that are participating in case there is a glitch along the way. If you would like to play along, just follow along the blog path.  I am linking to one of the Zva designers and that designer is linking to the next and so on. Be prepared to be inspired along the way. Hidden on FIVE of the blogs is a Zva Creative prize package ...YAY! Winners will be randomly chosen after the hop is over, so it's important to leave a comment on as many blogs as you can along the way.

The Blog Hop starts today, January 24th and runs through midnight US Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, January 25th and the 5 winners will be announced on Wednesday, January 26th on each of the five winning blogs. The full list will be found on Kim Hughes‘s blog as well (linked above). We will do our best to notify each winner, but it's best if you can pop in to all of the blogs once again on, you never know what kind of inspirational creation that you may find there. All you need to do is leave a comment on this Zva Blog Hop do not need to leave a comment on each and every designer's blog post to qualify. The more times you leave a comment along the blog hop path though, the more chances you will have to be one of the lucky winners.

And here's my Zva layout:

This month I'm showcasing Zva's collection of blue crystal flourishes and flowers which  you can see on this layout. This layout came together quite easily for me. I used Sassafras' Mix and Mend collection, layering patterned paper and lots of embellishments on top of a gathered muslin base. I guess when I'm working with beautiful patterned papers, bling and flowers, it's easy to be inspired. :)

A bouquet of baby blue, peach and ivory Zva flowers layered with hand-crinkled seam binding and flowers cut out from the Sass patterned paper.

The beautiful blue crystal and pearl flourish from Zva.

A blue Zva crystal butterfly and a blue Zva flower amidst some crinkled seam binding, hand-dyed using Tattered Angels glimmer mists.

The title on a banner, strung together with some bakers twine.

Taking my cue from the Mix and Mend collection, I used lots of fabric on this layout - muslin, ric-rac, seam binding... and just layered them on.

Your next stop is here: Guiseppa Gubler

Thank you SO MUCH for joining us

By The Sea

Did you catch the Tattered Angels Colored Connections live u-stream broadcast earlier today? Wow! Tattered Angels is collaborating with Prima, Pink Paislee and House of Three for some fantastic packs and mistable products. One of my favourites - Prima is coming out with some mistable canvas. How fun is that? I love how TA's mediums work on canvas. Here's something I created for Tattered Angels a couple of weeks back.

I altered an 8x8 canvas using the new Limited Edition Spring 2011 colours.

I used Glimmer Mists in Puerto Rico, Bahama Blue, Trunk Bay and Sun Sisters. I also layered Glimmer Glam in Chandelier, Golden Goddess and Blue Suede Shoes in between the layers of mists and you can see how the colours build up, with the glam resisting the mists.

I wanted the focus of the layout to be on the photo and the background so I went for a minimalistic look, completing the canvas with just a single stalk of Prima vine. The wrinkled seam binding you see on the Prima floral vine was hand-dyed using glimmer mists to match the canvas. Ahh.. gotta love how you can mist anything to match your layout or project. :)

Here's a layout for Zva Creative featuring some of their pretty blue and green crystal flourishes and flowers. I used the Hollywood Vogue collection from Webster's Pages on this layout, chosen for its blue and green tones.

Some details:

A blue and green bouquet sitting atop some hand-dyed and crinkled seam binding, bordered by blue and green crystal flourishes. I also brought out some of my border punches and had fun with them. And my die cut white picket fence in the corner there.

A close-up of the Zva flowers and seam binding.

The title on a doily with punched out butterflies.

Thanks for dropping by. :)

A Perfect Day

Here's a layout I created for PaperMarket using Graphic 45's new Once Upon A Springtime collection and PaperMarket's own chipboard alphas, AlphaBites.

I fashioned a shadowbox out of the Springtime papers, building up the layers and giving the layout a 3D effect.

If you look closely at the layout you'll see a little fairy sprinkling fairy dust on a flower:

And a little fairy sitting on the title:

A cut out of a little fairy and a bird with a pink ribbon in its beak blending in with a seam binding in a similar shade of pink.:

You can see the shadowbox and the layers of muslin, seam binding and patterned paper better from this angle:

This was a fun layout to make. Whimsical fairytale. :)

Tattered Angels Colored Connections

What do Tattered Angels, Prima Marketing, Pink Paislee and House of Three have up their sleeves?! Watch the Live webshow on Tuesday, January 18th at 8pm MST for a pre-CHA sneak peek and exciting announcements! See you there!

Basic Grey Gallery

Two of my Basic Grey Curio project are up on the Basic Grey Gallery.

The first one is this layout I did for PaperMarket:

This is one of my current favourite layouts. I had fun experimenting with fabric, layering the muslin, seam binding and lace with patterned paper, photo and embellishments.

The second project is this altered frame I created for Tattered Angels:

With this project I played with misting and stamping over wood, and again some layering of muslin, lace, die cut papers, flowers and one of my favourite quotes.

The Curio collection is really pretty and you'll see lots more Curio projects from me I'm sure. :)

Featured on Webster's Pages

My altered clipboard calendar is featured on Webster's Pages!

The altered clipboard is one of my favourite recent projects. Gotta love how the Webster's Pages Sweet Season collection makes for such a shabby sweet project.

Did I mention that peach and mint's my current favourite colour combination? :)

Thanks for the feature, Webster's!

Altered Love Case

Valentine's Day will be here soon so here are a few projects I created for PaperMarket to inspire you.

Here's a larger photo of the suitcase I altered. The suitcase is part of the Love Handles personalizable cases exclusive to PaperMarket.

I altered the case using Pink Paislee's Sweetness collection. I ripped an oval in the backing patterned paper to reveal the word "Love", then trimmed it with Prima lace for a sweet romantic look.

I then built up a garden of flowers and butterflies around the word, layering them for a dimensional effect. I also added lace around the entire case because I wanted a soft feminine look to the case.

To top off the case, some matching crinkled seam binding, hand-dyed to match the case perfectly. :)

I have to say it was fun altering the case and I might just pick up another one to alter. :)

On a rough count, I created at least 132 scrap projects last year, inclusive of layouts, cards, mini albums, altered items... That's about an average of 11 per month... Hhhmm.... So that's what I've been busy with. :D

Calendar Swap

We've swapped our calendar pages and this is what I created for the swap.

All 24 pieces, for 24 calendars. :)

From this... mounds of hand-crinkled seam binding, lace, buttons, distressed and inked cardstock, individually handcut and inked roses, printed calendars...

To this...

The swap pieces were all so pretty and so detailed they had us going "Wah! You so free ah?!" at every one. :D It took a lot of effort creating 24 swap pieces and everyone was wondering if we'd taken on more than we should have. But seeing everyone's creation that night and all the crazy laughter and jokes that went on through the night certainly made it worth the while. :)

Dance - Altered Frame

I don't think I've shared this altered wooden frame I created for My Tattered Angels a couple of months back. The bare wooden frame was misted with glimmer mist in pink then stamped over with clear stamps from Tattered Angels which was then heat embossed with white embossing powder. I love the soft colours used here.

I used patterned paper from Basic Grey's Curio collection - one of my current favourites. Gotta love that stamped quote.

Bits of flowers cut out from the patterned paper, Prima blossoms, Prima lace, BG die cuts and scrunched up muslin complete this shabby-chic altered frame.

SSS Sneak

It's done! Just in time too. All 24 pieces for the SSS swap. And super siong it was.

For those of you wondering, 24 of us are doing a swap for calendar pages. Everyone chooses a calendar month, creates a page and we get two completely scrapalicious calendars at the end of the swap. How fun is that? Can't wait for the crop when we get to drool over everyone else's creations. :)

Just a sneak here so the girls will get first view when we do the exchange.
